Fermentation & Biosynthesis for Nutraceutical Ingredients

Botanovance manufactures nutraceutical ingredients through microbial fermentation, biosynthesis, and biotransformation. Our capabilities cover culture and process development, controlled fermentation, recovery, purification, and powder finishing. Each project is developed around the target ingredient, required grade, and intended use.

Ingredient fermentation and biosynthesis capabilities

We connect upstream cultivation with downstream recovery, selecting the process stages needed for the ingredient.

Upstream process development

We develop culture preparation, fermentation media, and feeding strategies around the target ingredient. Feedstock sources and restrictions on media components are considered at this stage.

Controlled microbial fermentation

We manage temperature, pH, oxygen supply, agitation, and nutrient feeding according to the production organism and process. In-process monitoring and contamination controls support the agreed operating conditions.

Biosynthesis and biotransformation

We use microbial production or biological conversion of selected starting materials to obtain the target compound. Route evaluation considers conversion performance, by-products, and subsequent purification.

Downstream recovery and ingredient finishing

Recovery can combine separation, filtration, concentration, and chromatography as the ingredient requires. Crystallization, drying, and finishing are selected to meet the agreed purity and powder specifications.
For facility profiles, see our manufacturing network.

Define the ingredient and process requirements

Before development, we establish the product target and the constraints that affect fermentation, recovery, and finishing.

Review area Project requirements
Target ingredient Identity, chemical form, active-content target, and assay basis.
Biological inputs Production organism, feedstock, media components, and source restrictions.
Purity and residues Related substances and applicable process-residue or microbial limits.
Final form Moisture, particle characteristics, and relevant powder-handling requirements.
Intended use Application, destination market, and required supporting documentation.
These requirements define the sample assessment and release criteria for the selected route.

Evaluate fermentation and recovery together during scale-up

Our development work follows the ingredient from cultivation through recovery and finishing. During scale-up, we review changes in process performance, purification losses, impurity profile, and the characteristics of the finished powder.
  • Route review: Agree the ingredient target and manufacturing approach.
  • Development trials: Evaluate cultivation, conversion, and recovery conditions.
  • Pilot evaluation: Assess sample material and define scale-up adjustments.
  • Commercial production: Confirm the specification, release requirements, and supply plan.
Available process information, analytical methods, and batch COAs support the review. See technical documentation for document requests.

Fermentation project FAQ
