Capsule Supplement Manufacturing

Capsule supplement manufacturing turns a powder formula into filled hard capsules that are tested and packed to an agreed specification. Botanovance develops custom capsule supplements through ingredient sourcing, fill trials and production on partner hard-capsule lines, for brands with an existing formula or a new concept.

What to Define Before Choosing a Capsule

Capsule size is set by fill volume, not weight. Share the complete formula, including carriers and excipients, before fixing a capsule size or a dose per capsule.

Specification What to define
Formula and serving Amount of each ingredient per capsule and capsules per serving; state extract weight and active-compound content separately
Shell Gelatin or vegetarian (HPMC), plus dietary requirements such as vegan, halal or kosher
Powder properties Particle size, bulk density, flowability and moisture sensitivity
Excipients Permitted flow agents and fillers, and any exclusions
Packaging Bulk or retail, bottle or blister, count per pack, labeling and storage needs
Gelatin and HPMC shells are the standard options. Pullulan, delayed-release shells and custom colors can be reviewed on request, subject to partner availability.

Capsule Sizes and Fill Capacity

Most supplement formulas use size 00 or size 0. Values below are typical; real fill weight depends on blend density and how firmly the machine compacts the powder.
Size Volume (mL) Fill at 0.6 g/mL (mg) Fill at 0.8 g/mL (mg)
000 1.37 820 1,100
00 0.95 570 760
0 0.68 410 540
1 0.50 300 400
2 0.37 220 300
3 0.30 180 240
4 0.21 125 170

Check Filling Performance Before Production

Three checks prevent most capsule problems:
  • Dose fit: A low-density extract may need a larger capsule or more capsules per serving. Granulation can raise density.
  • Fill consistency: Poor flow or segregation causes weight variation. Even fill weight does not prove uniform active content.
  • Moisture compatibility: Hygroscopic blends can draw moisture from the shell. Review blend, shell and packaging together.
Trial results go into the production specification, including any change to ingredient grades or excipients.

From Approved Formula to Finished Capsules

  • Project review: Send ingredient quantities, serving size, target market and order volume.
  • Feasibility and samples: We check capsule fit and powder handling, and agree sample or trial needs.
  • Specification approval: Formula, shell, fill target, packaging and testing scope are signed off.
  • Production and release: The partner facility manufactures, quality records are reviewed, and goods ship.

Capsule Quality Checks and Documentation

Finished-product tests are agreed before the order. Depending on the formula and market, they may include:
  • Ingredient identity and composition
  • Appearance, closure and fill-weight variation
  • Assay and content uniformity, where relevant
  • Microbial limits and contaminants such as heavy metals
  • Disintegration, storage conditions and shelf-life data
An ingredient COA covers a raw material; a finished-product COA covers the capsule batch. We confirm which documents are available, who performs each test, and which certifications apply to the producing site and product. See analytical testing and regulatory support, or request records from the Technical Documentation Center.

Capsule Manufacturing MOQ, Cost and Lead Time

MOQ, unit price and lead time depend on the formula, shell, order size, testing and packaging. We quote them after reviewing your brief.
For a like-for-like quote, state both the total capsule count and the finished-pack quantity. Lead time covers samples, material procurement, production, quality release and shipping. Custom shells, extra testing or packaging changes can raise the MOQ and extend delivery.

Capsule Manufacturing FAQs

Send each candidate the same formula, shell, packaging and testing requirements, then compare. Confirm the production site, its certifications, the documents supplied and who releases each batch.

About 570 to 760 mg for powders with a bulk density of 0.6 to 0.8 g/mL. Lighter extracts hold less, so a fill trial confirms the real figure.

Yes. We review it for production on partner lines and confirm ingredient availability, capsule fit and any adjustments before quoting.

Yes. Formula options, customization and packaging are reviewed per project. See Private Label Supplements.

Yes. HPMC shells are plant-based, but the final claim depends on every ingredient, including carriers and processing aids.
